CHILDREN OF GOD

CHILDREN OF GOD

Read the quotes below and consider what all the statements have in common.

We are all different. Yet we are all God’s children. We are all united behind this country and the common cause of freedom, justice, fairness, and equality. That is what unites us. Barbara Boxer; Cal. politician

No color, no religion, no nationality should come between us; we are all children of God; Mother Teresa

Every man is somebody because he is a child of God; Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

We are all the children of God; Alice Bailey; writer of more than twenty-four books on theosophical subjects, and were one of the first writers to use the term New Age.

Every human being is a child of God and has more good in him than evil; Norman Vincent Peale

I think that people are born with a certain makeup, and that we’re all children of God; Barack Obama

What is it? They all viewed scripture incorrectly. According to scripture all people are not considered Gods’ children. All people are Gods’ creation, Colossians 1:16, but only those who accept Jesus as their savior and are born again are credited as His children.

Consider the following scriptures;

Galatians 3:26; So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, 27 for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.  29; If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

John 11:52, and not for that nation only, but also that He would gather together in one the children of God who were scattered abroad.

Romans 8:16, The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,

Ephesians 1:5, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will,

Romans 8:14, For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

John 1:12, But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:

Non-believers are considered children of wrath;

Ephesians 2:3,  among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others.

Romans 9:8, That is, those who are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God; but the children of the promise are counted as the seed.

John 8:44, You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.

It is plain to see that God loves the world and man whom He created; John 3:16, For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. However salvation is exclusive to those that accept Him as their savior, are born again (John 1:12) and follow His commands (1 John 2:4, The one who says, “I have come to know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him ;).

Those that are led by the spirit are children of God. Those who are not are children of the flesh. We have a choice as to which we choose to follow and it is a disservice to  people, Christians and non-believers alike, to promote and tell people we are “all children of God.” That statement, along with others, could actually keep people from finding the true salvation they seek because of believing false statements that are not in scripture.

Before we make reference to any scripture when discussing our faith we must be sure we are correctly quoting it. To be safe remember 1 Thessalonians 5:21, Test everything; retain what is good. Make sure what you say is accurate!
